Ir A.B. (Bert) Stuij Graduated in 1986 at the technical university of Delft, Mechanical Engineering, specialisation Energy Systems. Final thesis on a fully sustainable (wind based) power system for the Netherlands. He joined the international staff of Royal Dutch Shell early 1986, as petroleum engineer. Worked in
London, off-shore and Aberdeen on reservoir engineering and production technology. Project leader from 1990 onwards, coordinating petroleum engineering teams, either to develop new fields or to extend field-life of older fields in the North Sea.
Bert Stuij joined Novem (the Netherlands Agency for Energy and Environment) in 1992. Initial focus on knowledge centres of the International Energy Agency (IEA), network organisation to share energy technology information amongst IEA member countries. In 1995 the focus shifted towards energy collaboration with
transition economies in Eastern Europe. Management of energy projects in Latvia and Romania in the context of Dutch and European programmes. From 1997 strategy and programme development in the fields of energy research, clean fossil, sustainable energy, transport efficiency and international collaboration.
Various management positions from 1999 onwards, currently with NL Agency (executive agency for sustainability, innovation and international trade). Initial responsibility for programmes on energy research, energy from waste and biomass, new transport fuels, and "clean fossil". Broadening in 2006, with
responsibility for the implementation of the Dutch energy innovation and research strategy, "clean fossil" policies, gas innovation, and the "sustainable energy for the Netherlands" programme. Most programmes include international collaboration in the context of the EU or the IEA. Delegate to the
Committee on Energy Research and Technology (CERT) of the International Energy Agency. Since February 2012 lecturer on energy innovation (1 day/week) at the Energy Delta Institute, the Groningen based Energy business school.
